INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

Couple of days back, exactly on 21st June, we had celebrated International Yoga day with millions of  people in many part of the world participating. On 11th December, 2014 United Nations had declared 21st June every year to be celebrated as International Yoga Day.

Some interesting fact about 21st of June are:

It is the longest day in the northern hemisphere. It is called Northern Solstice. Well, generally it is on 21st June, but in some years it could be 22nd June.

21st June is also celebrated as World Music Day (or Make Music Day) by many countries, especially Europe.

Of course there is another International Music Day on 1st of October. So what? The more, the merrier!

Father’s Day, across the globe falls on 21st of June.

Shish: Why do you want to go and talk astronomy and statistics? Are you trying to teach me something, because I am the Shishya? Why don’t you talk about Yoga, the topic of the day?

Naradaa: Ok,Ok. Got a bit carried away.

Coming back to Yoga, when did I first hear about Yoga? I talked about Maloo teacher who was my aunts’ home tutor and I always had occasion to learn something from her. She used to talk about our Prime minister of those days, Pandit Nehru. In one such reference she talked how ‘Chacha Nehru’ loved to do Yoga everyday for almost an hour and even shown a photograph of him doing Shirshasana.

My direct interaction with Yoga came after I passed my diploma and I was working as an instructor for a year in the polytechnic. My colleague, who was my lodge-mate also, would do Yoga everyday for more than an hour and he used to lecture us about the advantages of practicing Yoga everyday.

I started learning from him and started practicing Yoga daily. I continue to practice Yoga till today, practically everyday. (Well, there are days when I miss it, but generally I had been consistent).

When I was working in Ghaziabad, I was staying in a third floor flat and my friend (and one of my mentors, I should say) was staying in the second floor. His children who were very close to us, would come up every morning, to see uncle standing on the head….

So, Yoga definitely has helped me to keep up my health so far……

Shish: So, what we do on international Yoga day is International Yoga?.... No...no.... don't hit me.... that was in a lighter vein.....
