30th September, 2005.
It was a decade ago, on September 30th, 2005.
That fateful day, my wife Savitri was hit by a
speeding motorcycle. The accident occurred in Batam and
she was taken to Gleneagles hospital in Singapore. She was in coma for about 6 weeks. And against all odds and initial
opinions of doctors, she started working in the school, sitting on a
wheelchair, after 8 or 9 months.
Back in India in 2009, she joined a village primary school
near Dehradun and took charge as Principal in 2010. She loved trekking and started going for small treks on the hills around and this
year, 3 months ago, she trekked 50 kilometers on foot up in the Himalayas at an
altitude of 14000 ft.
On this day I, with Savitri and our children Daisy and Deepu
remember with thanks, the doctors and nurses who treated her, the friends and
relatives, colleagues and children who prayed for her speedy recovery, and all
those many who were part of her rehabilitation process in many different ways.
We salute you all!!!
