Independence Day Thoughts

On this 15th of August, Naradaa would like to wish all Indians with a Happy Independence Day greeting!

Now this is setting off a train of random thoughts… Naradaa also would like to have some festive day like this for his country. But Naradaa doesn’t know from whom his country has got independence. Or, Is Naradaa’s country really independent?

Naradaa has been taught that his country must have lots of foreign direct investment in everything. They say that the health of economy depends on that. But does  that make the country independent or ‘in dependence’?

And in this age of globalization what should we have? Should we call it ‘inter-dependence’?
Once upon a time, Naradaa’s village was self-dependent. So, were a few neighboring villages.

Everything anyone needed was available within the village. Irrespective of that, there were interactions between these villages. Marriages, trade, art and cultural exchanges happened frequently between people in different villages.

So Is Naradaa telling that we all should go back in time? No, but there is nothing wrong in looking back and taking cues from those good old days….

Does it mean Naradaa wants foreigners ruling his country? Of course not.

Some people keep telling that we should tell foreigners to do everything for us - give us machines, make a variety of products for us, decide and advice us what we need and what we don't, sell us everything from undergarments to weapon systems. Aren't they telling indirectly that foreigners should rule us? Don't these people imply that we don't make good machines, so we should import them; that we don't know how to install good power stations so we should import them; we don't know how to fry chicken, so we should have foreign restaurants that sells foreign chickens, we don't have good politicians, so we should ....

Naradaa would never agree with these people. Naradaa's country will be ruled by Naradaa's people. Naradaa's country should be self-dependent for all the prime needs of his people....

Then there is a philosophical thought. After all, what is freedom, independence or inter-dependence? Aren’t they all the state of your mind?

So, on this day make your minds strong to have a free self-dependent country to live in.....
