After a long tour Naradaa has come back to his abode and is determined to remain there for some time.

Now, Naradaa’s abode is where only Naradaa takes all the decisions. Naradaa knows what is required for the people who live there. It is a rule ‘Of Naradaa, For Naradaa and By Naradaa’. In this, only ‘for Naradaa’ by extension, partly becomes ‘for people’ also. Of Naradaa and By Naradaa do not have extensions, period.

Now after a few of these tours, Naradaa is thinking of changing the system of ruling in Naradaa’s abode. So Naradaa decided to have a discussion with ‘Shish’

N: Shish, I am thinking of introducing democracy in NA (for Naradaa’s abode, of course. These are times of abbreviations.)

S: I do not like you calling this place NA.

N: Why? It is very convenient. They call United States of America as USA, no?

S: USA is OK. But NA? When you tell NA it has got a negative tilt.

N: Well, ‘Naradaa’ is not going to change to ‘Paradaa’ to make it positive.

S: OK. But then, why you want, what you call this democracy? People are happy as it is. They are not burdened with taking decisions themselves and have their decisions questioned and debated. So far, nobody here has a problem.

N: Who says there will be problems in democracy? We are giving people an opportunity to decide how they should live their life.

S: It is like telling people, each one to cook his or her own food.

N: So, what is wrong? Cooking one’s own food is good! You can cook and eat whatever you like.

S: Do you know that most of the people have no special liking? They don’t live to eat, they eat to live… So why should they take extra trouble to cook something imagining that they would like it? They can as well go down to the nearest restaurant and eat to their heart’s content…

N: But it costs money. How many people would be having that kind of money?

S: Well, then you should advice them to make more money. Not make food…. And don’t tell me, making your own food is what democracy is all about!

N: No, no! We will have elections to many number of seats in the NA house which will be a meeting house for these representatives of NA people. We will have a number of parties, whoever gets the maximum number of seats wins, so that we can decide which party will decide our life for us.

S: I am not very good at mathematics, but I don’t understand how the party in the first place gets real majority unless they have more than 50% yes votes?

N: I had seen all these problems and how they are solving these in other places. If there are no one with a clear majority, then we will have something called coalition. You see, basically, you need someone, the one with majority, to rule and another which has to be opposition. And both of them can be coalitions.

S: But I think in case we have a situation like that, we should have one more election, participating only the top two parties. Then the problem doesn’t arise.

N: True. But maybe, it is problem for the parties?

S: . And there is one more thing. Why do you need an opposition? If all the parties are working for the good of the people, why opposition? I think you are getting into these complications unnecessarily.

N: If there is no opposition, how will we have debates and discussions? You are being critical just for fun, I think. Anyway, we will have more discussions on it. So, think Shish, think…..
