Naradaa had heard that there is a proverb in Malayalam, meaning
‘even if one kills one’s mother, there will be two opinions….’
Naradaa usually keeps an eye on the facebook and have been
seeing that there are quite a few posts where two totally opposite opinions on
two of the major happenings last week.
One was the passing away of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam,
Ex-President of India. How good a president was he, how good a scientist was he
etc. were being debated especially in the social media. I was a bit surprised
and pained the way some people had written totally negative views on him on both
these counts. I felt pained because I felt it incredible that someone could
think ill of such a versatile personality who was a good teacher, a good
scientist, a good leader and yes, a good President. In spite of holding the highest
office in India, he was a person of simple living. He had inspired millions of
young persons and his memory will continue to inspire millions in future. Much
has been already written and spoken about him and I do not intend to add
anything further but the negative writings about him did sadden Naradaa.
In our childhood, we were taught not to speak ill of people
who are no more. Naradaa is of the old school and would not like to speak ill
of anybody who is dead, not even about Yakub Memon who was hanged to death last
week.
Yes, the hanging of Yakub Memon was the second major happening
of last week which triggered off debates all over.
Since Yakub Memon is no more, I will not speak bad things about
him. But the major point of the debate was about whether we should have capital
punishment at all.
Naradaa is going to sit on the lazy chair and ponder over
all the ‘for and against’ arguments being written and spoken about wants to
formulate an opinion. It is a tall order, I know – because this is something
which is being discussed for the last few decades without any clear answer yet.
